Changing The Culture Of Play (6)

Our Start

Houston Futsal Association (HFA) began to form in an 800 sq. ft. corner of a CrossFit warehouse in Pasadena, Tx back in 2015. We were a one trainer program averaging 8-10 athletes per month. Our unique way of teaching began to make an impact quickly and that’s when word of mouth began.
We were lucky to have enough numbers to stay after hours on Friday nights and have “pick-up play” after training.

Our Growth

This was the moment everything changed for us, we quickly realized how much kids were not going outside and “pick-up playing” enough. There was a need in the market for a simple concept of “pick up play”. We gained momentum when we partnered with our first community church called Pasadena Mission Center. The slippery tiled floor and tight walls was exactly what we needed to create a true “culture” of Futsal.

Our Goals

We then began to form our organization as a 501C and began to build a year-round system focusing on Futsal as the CORE of development for youth soccer kids. Fast-forward to now, HFA is the biggest futsal developmental program in all of Houston as the first ground-up program with no affiliation or partnership with a major soccer club. We are extremely proud to have the most registered teams in any Houston local futsal tournament averaging 10 teams covering multiple age groups.

Houston Futsal Club

Not only do we compete locally, but on July 7th 2022, HFA took off to Kansas to compete in the USYF National Championship Tournament with four teams and had massive success in this event.
Our group of local 2010 boys have taken the name Houston Futsal Club to another level. They participated and dominated their age group in a four-pool, 20-team National Tournament.
They were able to take on futsal clubs from St Louis, Kansas City, Tennessee, and Florida to advance to the National Championship where they won 2nd place in the nation after falling short in the finals
To think that a ground-up group of Southeast Houston kids could pull off such a successful tournament is unimaginable and inspirational as it sets the bar extremely high for our future members.
