Houston Futsal Club

Grassroots Development Program

At GDP, everything starts with the ball. Our mission is to instill a deep love for the game by building a strong foundation of comfort, control, and confidence with the ball at each player’s feet. We believe that true development begins through consistent, focused touches—small, quick, and purposeful. That’s why our sessions emphasize individual ball work and dribbling, building foundational skills, and ensuring every player has meaningful time with the ball.

In a game filled with complexity, our philosophy is simple: fall in love with the ball first. Because when players are comfortable with the ball, everything else becomes possible.

GDP is for beginner and intermediate players. We are different than a traditional recreational program. We have experienced staff who work with our players to teach them the fundamentals and help them develop properly. Players can take this training to work towards our tryout for the competitive side or remain in GDP but experience how soccer should be played.

U6 and older will have 2 training sessions per week with soccer-experienced, trained staff. U5 will have one training session a week. Every player will have 8-10 scheduled games in either our in-house league or BAYSA, depending on your player’s age. Uniform tops are provided with your GDP package. Select your size when registering.

Unfortunately, we do not have a training package. Games are an important part of a player’s development. Games are a place to showcase their learning and improvement in the game. We understand many players have older siblings with games all across town and you may be unable to attend all games. When there is a conflict please mark your attendance in Playmetrics so teams can plan appropriately.

GDP will primarily use Playmetrics for scheduling both practices and games. You will use the app to mark your attendance status. GDP will send notifications of advanced changes in Playmetrics. In situations of severe weather, both Playmetrics and email will be used.

GDP’s in-house league is run by the HFA in cooperation with Dobie High School and CLCCA Futsal Courts. It is a league that will have our GDP teams that will focus on small-sided to allow players as much time on the ball as possible to learn to love the game. Formats may change, but primarily in-house games will be 3v3 (no keepers) or 5v5 (keepers). We may have times were we invite our pre-competitive teams to join us to give our players more of a challenge and allow both the parents and players to see what the next level is like.

For our U9-U12 age groups, they will participate in BAYSA, the local league competing against other local recreational clubs. These players will test their skills against other players in the Bay Area through BAYSA. These games are at El Franco Lee or Fatima in TX City. HFA/GDP has no control over the BAYSA league schedule. Games are primarily on Saturdays with the occasional Sunday game. Games start as early as 8 am and as late as 5 pm.

Practices: wear comfortable athletic or soccer-specific clothing. They will need shinguards, long socks (they go OVER the shinguards), cleats, a water bottle, and a soccer ball.

Cleats are also NOT allowed on CLCCA’s Futsal Courts. Players can wear tennis shoes, futsal shoes, or indoor shoes.

GDP believes in providing the foundation for excellent soccer players. This means having the ball! One session each week will be focused more on individual technical skills. The second session will be more tactical, small-sided, and game-like. The sessions will utilize stations to increase variety and allow smaller groups to ensure coaches can teach the game. Every session will include training from trained soccer experienced staff guided by a curriculum developed with the player in mind. The session will also be fun! At this age and skill level if the game isn’t fun they won’t want to come back. They won’t want to play and get better. So our training focuses on developing the foundational skills necessary to reach the competitive track but in a way that allows the player to enjoy the game.

GDP may still be the right fit! Depending on their age, 4-6 there are no competitive programs yet. GDP is HFA’s feeder program for when players reach the right age. Our 2016B, 2016G, 2017B, 2017G, and 2018B Competitive Teams’ core are from GDP. We teach the skills and playing philosophy that our competitive side looks for in players. For those older players, GDP can be the place to learn the skills necessary to make one of your competitive teams. Get better then try out and see if you can make the competitive side!
